Information sessions & drop-in application workshops for community members

Jan 16, 2023

Quadra Island Foundation is inviting local community groups to attend information sessions and consider applying for funding to help improve their internal systems and expand their capacity.

QIF has hired a grant coordinator, who has begun connecting with local groups and will offer information and support for those that want to apply for funding.

Information sessions will be held at the Quadra Community Centre in the Board Room

  • Wednesday, January 25 (2pm) and
  • Wednesday, February 8 (7pm).

Drop-in application workshops will also be held at the Quadra Community Centre:

  • Sunday, Feb. 5 (2 to 3pm) and
  • Saturday, Feb. 11 (1 to 3pm), during the Community Connections and Volunteer Fair.

Pre-registration is not required for either.

“With $100,000 allocated for Quadra Island, the opportunity for local organizations to access much-needed funding is tremendous,” says QIF’s volunteer board chair Michael Mascall. “We’re encouraging all groups to learn more about this opportunity to see how they might benefit, and further benefit our island community.”

The funding available through Quadra Island Foundation is part of a $400 million Government of Canada investment in a national COVID recovery fund to support charities, non-profits and Indigenous Governing Bodies. Quadra Island Foundation is working with the Community Foundations of Canada, Canadian Red Cross, and United Way to distribute funding. Funding for Quadra organizations and those in Strathcona Regional District Area C specifically targets investing in systems and processes.

Community groups must apply for funding by February 21 and complete funded projects by the end of June 2024.
Online applications opened January 6 and can be accessed through the Quadra Island Foundation website at www.quadraislandfoundation.ca.

To be eligible for funding, groups must:

  • Be a community service organization
  • Be incorporated or established in Canada or have a principal office address in Canada
  • Provide services to communities in Canada
  • Be in good standing with the Canada Revenue Agency, a provincial registry or applicable regulatory body
  • Have a governance structure in place with at least three people on the board, management committee or other type of governing body
  • Have internal accountability measures such as practices and procedures for internal controls and accountability
  • Have a bank account in the name of the organization and a financial management system to track the organizations income and expenses effectively

Please send questions about this opportunity by email to grants@quadraislandfoundation.ca or telephone QIF’s temporary grant coordinator, Sarah Deagle, at 250-830-8401.
