Huge thanks: Quadra Island Foundation grateful for community participation in Celebrate Quadra!

May 26, 2023

What a turnout! Quadra Island Foundation volunteers send heartfelt thanks to the many, many community members who made Celebrate Quadra! an event to remember.

“We are grateful to everyone who volunteered, contributed items for the concession and silent auction, provided photographs, music and live performances, and, of course, to the audience,” says QIF board president Michael Mascall. “This event highlighted so many things to celebrate about our island community – our people, culture and environment. And with so much community support, it was truly an evening to remember.”

The April 22 event coincided with Earth Day and featured a talk by Eric Peterson about the Tula Foundation’s work, including monitoring and advising on local environmental conditions and phenomena. Thanks to island photographers, Celebrate Quadra! also included spectacular slideshow of our natural surroundings and wildlife.

There was also a slideshow focused on Quadra people, places and community and cultural events – think May Day, markets, Canada Day, Fall Fair, Theatre Quadra production, Chamber Music and Quadra Singers performances and more.

Another highlighted some of the many volunteer organizations that provide local community services, including: the Community Kitchen, Free Firewood; ICAN (Quadra’s Climate Action Network); Quadra Cat Rescue; Quadra Children’s Centre; Quadra Circle; Quadra Island Conservancy and Stewardship Society; Quadra Cultural Committee; Quadra Island Emergency Program (neighbourhood emergency preparedness) and Quadra Island Emergency Support Services and the; Quadra Island Seniors Housing; Quadra Island Volunteer Fire Department; Quadra Island Outdoor Club; Quadra Legion; Quadra Quilters and Way to Go and the Young Musicians Fund.

The event was also a fundraiser. Proceeds from the concession will be donated to the Quadra food bank. Silent auction proceeds will be invested as part of QIF’s endowment fund. Interest generated will benefit Quadra Island in the form of grants for local projects.
