The Quadra Island Foundation (QIF) exists to help Quadra Island thrive – culturally, socially and environmentally. It was established as a public, charitable foundation to support a more resilient and self-reliant community and works to help preserve and enhance the unique qualities of Quadra through capacity building and grant funding. QIF was incorporated under the BC Societies Act on August 18th, 2020 and received charitable status on March 3rd, 2021. QIF is a member of the Community Foundations of Canada.

Position Overview: The Quadra Island Foundation is seeking an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as the Executive Director on a part-time basis for one year (October 2024 – October 2025), with a possibility of extension. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide strategic direction, oversee operations, and foster relationships to advance our mission of enhancing the quality of life on Quadra.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans in alignment with the Foundation’s mission and goals.
  • Lead initiatives to promote community engagement, capacity-building and fund-raising.

2. Operational Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including the supervision of any contract staff, ensuring efficient and effective utilization of resources.
  • Ensure programs and initiatives offered by the Foundations contribute to the organization’s missions and reflect the priorities of the Board.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain organizational excellence and compliance.

3. Fundraising and Development:

  • Drive fundraising efforts by cultivating relationships with donors, businesses, and other stakeholders.
  • Expand the Foundation’s endowment and reach through innovative fundraising strategies.

4. Grantmaking and Impact Assessment:

  • Manage the Foundation’s grantmaking process, including application review, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Assess the impact of grants and programs to ensure alignment with community needs and strategic priorities.

5. Financial Oversight:

  • Develop and manage the Foundation’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.
  • Ensure the board has access to appropriate financial expertise on investments and financial performance to optimize resources for community benefit.

6. Community Capacity-Building and Advocacy:

  • Act as a champion for the Foundation by advocating and promoting its programs and initiatives.
  • Build partnerships with First Nations, community leaders, nonprofits, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Enhance community capacity through collaborations, programs and initiatives with local community organizations.

7. Board Governance and Support:

  • Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors.
  • Participate in board meetings as required by providing updates, and ensuring the board has all the information required for strategic decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience in a nonprofit, foundation, or related organization, ideally in a senior role.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor relations, granting processes and financial management.
  • Strong understanding of Quadra Island’s community, its organizations and priorities.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans and outcomes.
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree required; advanced education in public administration or related field preferred.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience with a salary range of $35 – $40 per hour for up to 20 hours per week.
